LEVI
THE COMPLICATED ONE

Hello, I am Levi, and I would like to share my story with you.

My presence at the sanctuary wasn't marked by a traditional rescue. Instead, I came here as a companion to Bonnie, ensuring she wouldn't face solitude. Contrary to initial appearances, both Bonnie and I bore unseen psychological wounds. I, in particular, masked my fears behind a façade of confidence. The big views overwhelmed me, and my fear of intrusion often manifested as anger—a presence that even struck a chord of apprehension in some.

Months passed with a simple yet profound approach: someone sat nearby, allowing me to set the pace of our interaction. Slowly, the tension dissolved, revealing a horse with a history of isolation and physical scars. These scars bore witness to harsh training methods, including a Caretta (barbed noseband) and racking (a method used for show jumping training). Though I grapple with many issues, from reluctance to leave my comfort zone to aversions to being haltered and ridden, we're on a gradual journey of addressing my anxieties.

The key to my healing lies in granting me the autonomy to be just a horse. By allowing me the freedom to make choices and interact on my terms, they've witnessed a remarkable transformation. I am not coerced into anything; instead, I am empowered to navigate my own path of healing—a journey that unfolds with patience and understanding.

Thank you for being a part of my journey.
